Tuesday’s Trash

I know the title sounds harsh, but I’m starting this series to review products that just didn’t work for me. Maybe it’s a defect, bad packaging, poor performance, awful scent or terrible customer service. Whatever the reasons are you will find out. I will be brutally honest and hopefully I can save you from making the same mistake and possibly save you some money too! I wish I seen them on an anti-haul first!

First up this week is Oz Natural’s Vitamin C + AHA facial Serum. This product was a huge let down. I’m a fan of Oz Naturals so I never  imagined that I would dislike this serum so much.

Let me give you the official description before I tear it down.

We combine the most stable form of vitamin c with potent AHA, making this one of the most effective vitamin c serums available. Results in 3 weeks guaranteed.

COLD PROCESSED SKINCARE is better for your skin and provides a much more natural formulation than other so-called natural skincare brands. OZ Naturals Cold processed skincare is purer, cleaner and more efficacious for your skin.

GUARANTEED TO WORK OR YOUR MONEY BACK – We’re confident you’ll love OZNaturals products. However, if within 30 days you’re not 100% satisfied with your purchase, we’ll provide you with a full refund, no questions asked.

PATENTED BIOPRESERVE COMPLEX eliminates the need for traditional, harmful preservatives like Phenoxyethanol or Sodium Benzoate. Unlike 99% of other skincare brands, OZ Naturals formulas will never contain these harmful preservatives.

THIS POTENT ANTI AGING SERUM contains alpha hydroxy acid which helps promote cell turnover, improves skin tone and texture. Experience why this serum has quickly become the flagship vitamin c from OZNaturals.

Ok let’s start with the “stable formula” this Serum is so cloudy and inconsistent in color that no matter how much you shake it, there still is a swirl of clouds in each drop.

Can you see the cloudiness in the dropper?

The scent is something I have a hard time describing. I’m sorry but it smells like a nursing home. You know that medicine coming through your skin kind of smell? Yeah, so bad that I can’t stand it on my face. The scent never dissipates.

It dries up and almost hardens making my skin feel dry and itchy immediately. I’ve applied my Moisturizer over it and I still smell the stench.

I’m sorry that I can’t give you long-term effects because I couldn’t last more than a week. After that week, I had no visible changes in my skin, in fact my skin was drier than usual.

I love the natural ingredient motto of Oz Naturals but whatever natural ingredient smells like that should be eliminated.

The good part is they have a money back guarantee within 30 days so if you decide to try it, you can always return it. Of course I missed that window.

I will reach out to the company to see if this is supposed to smell so awful. I will update if I get a response.

Please don’t hate me for product #2 this week this because the message the company is sending out is powerful and positive one.

Beauty Crop’s GRLPWR Liquid Lipstick in the shade IMMA BAWSE is next.

Now, I do think what the brand is doing here is amazing. They are promoting female empowerment, shunning girl to girl hostility, and encouraging self-expression. I think that’s awesome, but this review is about the product not the cause.

Obviously I really wanted to like this!! I love lipsticks, love the cause, the shade looked pretty, the packaging is super cute and would fit right in with my collection.

I’ve seen some YouTube videos going around about how great the Girl Gang 5 piece set is and I’m stunned. The set does include Imma Bawse and I know formulas vary from shade to shade so maybe the others shades have better consistency and wear. That’s the only justification I can see for these great reviews.

Here is the official description from Beauty Crop:

An intensely pigmented liquid lipstick that is life-proof with serious staying power! Apply our creamy lipstick to lips and allow the formula to set to a long-wearing matte look, delivering rich uncompromising color. Our formula is enriched with Shea Butter and Vitamin E provides you with comfortable wear for hours, that doesn’t cake, flake or dry out – empowering you to take on the day! Celebrate your individuality with our to-die-for shades

Okay, it is intensely pigmented and leaves a little stain but it pretty much ends there.

The packaging is so pretty with the rose gold lid & lips all over!

The wand isn’t bad, it’s small enough to line the lips and there is a little dip in the center to hold the product BUT maybe that contributes to the streaking. The formula is a bit thick too. It really streaky even with several layers. It’s not only NOT transfer proof, it smudges right off the center of my lips within an 2 hours.

The remainder settles right into the fine lines and it bleeds like crazy. It’s super drying (like most mattes) but it’s uncomfortable too. It definitely cakes, flakes, and dries out.

The pic below is after 2 hours and you can see every fine line, bleeding, and wearing off in the center. I even gave this 2 tries at applying, hence the blotchy makeup around the lips. lol.

I swatched this on my arm too and it was impossible to fully remove. I used a makeup wipe, an oil based makeup remover, and finally industrial orange cleaner and I still had some residue on my arm.
The shade is described as a vampy deep wine shade. I would call it brick-red with dark brown streaks.

Then I waited 5 minutes and rubbed with my finger:

Then I used 3 different cleansers at an attempt to remove the swatch:

That’s it for Tuesday’s trash. I love to write a candid review and I hope you all enjoyed reading.

Have you tried either of these products? If so, please comment with your experience.

  1. I love the honesty but super surprised because the Vitamin C serum alone from the entire line was one that worked wonders on my face! I guess everyone has different results.

  2. I think it’s equally important to hear about products that don’t work! Everyone is different so what may not work for you might be my HG! 😛
I’m so glad you wrote about Oz Naturals Vitamin C + AHA facial Serum because I’ve been doing research on various Vitamin C serums to try next, and Oz Naturals was one in consideration. My main issue with it is that the type of vitamin C it contains is sodium ascorbyl phosphate, not L-ascorbic acid, which is more effective (but also unstable). But haha, I know the nursing home smell you speak of! The stale air and medicine combined… I hope they get back to you on the reason for the smell. I know that some Vitamin C serums smell like meat because of the ferulic acid but it doesn’t look like this formulation includes it.
I’ve not heard of Beauty Crop GRLPWR Liquid Lipsticks… but yikes, that doesn’t look good. I understand a company can have a great philosophy and social movement… but if the product sucks, it sucks. I mean, why don’t I just donate money for a good cause and bypass the product altogether then?

    1. I know I tried to blame it on the instability of L-ascorbic acid but nope! I have no idea why it looks like that.
Drunk elephant has a good VIT C Serum but again the smell is a little funky but not nearly this bad.
SkinCeuticals is supposed to have a really high percentage of vitamin C and awesome reviews but it’s a hefty price! Janine from abeautifulwhim recommended it and she knows a lot more about it.
I wish I could’ve donated for the cause but I received the Beauty Crop lipstick in a monthly subscription, but honestly based on reviews and online pictures I would have purchased it. The packaging kills me because I LOVE it.
