My followers know by now that I end every post with “Give Me Some Lip” so when I saw this Sephora Favorites set, I went crazy!!! Not really but I did buy it immediately. I am going to write a quick review and then tell you how you can win the newer version.
I love the Sephora Favorite samplers because it’s a cheaper way of finding out, first hand, what products I love enough to buy or what brands work for me. You do have to be mindful of the sizes and prices because you can be duped into thinking you are getting more for less. Always look at the amount of product and compare to the full-size products.
Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip is a 6-piece multi-brand lip samplers that include 2 full-size products. This is a trendy lip-shaped set featuring several finishes from satin lip, matte lips, treatment balm, and a lip tint. I purchased this for $28 USD with a Sephora stated value of $97 USD.
Here is what the sampler contains and the price I calculated based on the product amount:
– Fresh® Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment (sheer rosy tint) 0.07 oz Retail value $12
– Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft (mauve pink nude) 0.04 oz Retail value $10
– Lancôme Juicy Shaker in 313 Boom-Meringue (lemon meringue flavor) 0.22 oz FULL-SIZE $21
– NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien (rose pink) 0.05 oz Retail value $18.55
– Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out (deep nude) 0.13 oz FULL-SIZE $24
– Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Chihuahua (dusty mauve) 0.16 oz Retail value $5.25
As you can see, you get 2 full-size products totaling $45. The price of the box is $28 so not only are you getting 2 full-size products for almost the price of one, everything else is a bonus. That’s how I look at it. Here is the size breakdown of all non full-size products:
Fresh is exactly half of the full version (0.15 oz.)
KVD is a little less than half of the full version (0.10 oz.)
Nars is almost the same as the full version (0.05 oz.)
Too Faced is 3 times smaller than the full version (0.4 oz.)
Math class over! lol You get the point, the Sephora value of $97 is on point if you include sales tax.
Let me start this review by stating that this is a very neutral box with shades that can be worn everyday and by any skin tone. This is going to be tough because I love every single item in the box, but I will work my way down the list starting with what I like best:
Smashbox- Stepping Out is the only matte that I feel 100% comfortable wearing. The pigment is amazing, it is long-lasting, and transfer proof. It applies like silk, so smooth and even with one swipe. It takes longer, than the average matte, to dry down. It is worth the wait time because it feels like nothing on my lips without drying them out. I have olive skin and this is a medium nude and what I wore in my first YouTube video.
Nars-Rikugien is one that I reach for a lot! It’s an everyday rosey pink that takes the least amount of time to apply because of the pencil. I use this a lot for work because it’s my lips but better and takes half the time to apply than a matte. It’s a Satin finish so NO dry cracked lips. It doesn’t accentuate all the fine lines. The down sides are the packaging, you have to sharpen it and I do re-apply once in a 12 hour shift.
Too-Faced Chihuahua is the perfect true dusty rose and semi-comfortable matte. It actually has a bit of a satiny shine to it. This one dries down pretty quick so if your aren’t precise, I would suggest using a lip liner. I absolutely love the soft applicator. This is a matte you could pull off anytime and any day.
Lancôme- 313 Bloom is such an innovative and cute package, juicy shaker…come on!! When I opened this, the product was separated by what looked like light pink oil and hot pink liquid and I thought…. yuck. Once you shake this bi-phase formula you will be addicted to shaking it just to watch the formula mix. It turns into a really pretty lip oil with a sheer pink tint. The applicator is one I’ve never come across it’s a rounded sponge that picks up product as you shake it. When you open the lid the product is on the sponge and ready for use. I keep one in my home bag and one in my work bag. It’s great alone or on top of your favorite shade. It will loosen your mattes but sometimes I’m okay with that. This is going to be my winter savior.
Fresh-Sugar Rose is a tinted balm but what I love about it is the lemongrass scent and the balmy comfortable feel on my lips. The packaging is terrible the product hits the sides of the tube and gets messy. Not sure if the full-size is the same. The actual product is stoplight red but applied as a barely there rose tint (when I say rose I mean red, not pink) on my medium pigmented lips. Let’s be serious, it’s a balm and you have to re-apply often so economically it sucks. If you are looking for a tinted balm there are lower priced products with better tint. Sorry Fresh but waaaay overpriced.
KVD- Lovecraft is described as a dusty mauve, I would call it more of a muted rosey pink with warm undertones. It’s a shade that will look completely different depending on skin tone. On me it’s medium brown with a purple hue. It skipped across my lips and that was the first sign that I should’ve stopped. It is not creamy as described, in fact it’s the opposite of creamy. It is so drying and shows every line in my lips. I was actually uncomfortable in the first hour. KVD is in my top 5 brands but Studded Kiss needs a revamp, sorry Kat!
Now that you know all about Give Me Some Lip, there was no reason for me to give that away right? It’s time to get bold. Sephora recently launched a new Limited Edition Give Me Some Bold Lip sampler in the same lip-shaped container and this time I want you guys to tell me about it. As far as I can tell, the Laura Mercier is full-size and retails for $28 USD, which is the cost of the bold kit so everything else is a bonus. This is great option for people who love bold and want to check out different brands/formulas or for someone looking to explore their bolder side. I did not purchase the bold kit for me because I want to see the winners review to decide what to purchase so it’s a win-win for me. lol
