Unboxing Birchbox June 2016

It’s a Manic Monday and I’ve decided to cheer myself up and finally get to my June subscription unboxings. I said this before, but just in case you missed it, I am waiting until I actually get a chance to use the products before posting. I feel like I can give you guys a better sense of what I think this way.

Every month Birchbox provides a curated box of beauty, grooming, and/or lifestyle samples for $10/month. You can either pick one sample per month or choose the curated box with all products chosen by the guest editor. They also have a point system that translates to cash for purchases online or at the Birchbox store. A beauty profile questionnaire is available to better suite your interests. I find that they do generally follow your profile answers. Birchbox tends to send higher end products so they rarely include full-size items. Birchbox can be purchased yearly or gifted. They have now added a build-your-own-box feature. You can subscribe to Birchbox here.

I opted to pick my sample choice versus the curated box this month. I really wanted to try the Benefit’s Gimme Brow and I am so glad I did.

Review: Overall this month was okay. I did get to try some new products, but of course Birchbox had to throw some Coola in there. I knew it had to be Coola or Supergoop. I seriously can’t wait for the winter months so I can be done with those 2 overrated and overpriced sunscreens.

Benefits Gimme Brow Gel is AMAZING!! The very first time I used it, I went back on Birchbox and ordered the full-size. If you typically fill in and then use a gel to hold your brows in place….forget about it!! This is a super quick muti-tasker that has a cool little brush that works great.

The jane Iredale face primer & brightener is light-weight and works really well, but I honestly haven’t used it enough to know if I want to spend that kind of cash.

I was excited to try the Oribe Texturizing spray but I just couldn’t get this to work that great with my fine hair. It made my hair have this strange slightly sticky texture. I have to work with this some more to get the amount right.

This is now my 4th Whish product and while I do love the moisturizers, I wasn’t a fan of the last shave cream I received and this one isn’t much better. I like that it has Vitamin K but it still requires a large amount to get a good lather.

I would rate this box a 6/10 just because of Benefit and Jane Iredale.

Do you see any favorites in this month’s Birchbox? Any tips or tricks for me? Give Me Some Lip!!

    • I’ve been using everyday it since I got this. I’ve stopped using a pencil and gel completely. I have very black eyebrows and usually I can see the shine and I really don’t see it with Gimme Brow. What I really like is that my brows look natural and they stay in place. I hope you decide to try it. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I’ve not tried any Jane Iredale products, nor do I see them for sale around here. But I’ve heard great things about the brand. What other items have you tried from the brand?
Interesting you don’t seem to care for Coola or Supergoop – can you tell me why? I’ve not tried either of them but I constantly read rave reviews on them so I’ve been curious to try them, especially since they offer mineral sunscreen options. Thanks! 🙂

    • Wow. I’m surprised you don’t see much Jane Iredale she’s been around since the early 90s and pioneered adding ingredients to benefit skin. I have a few products but I really like her skin prep moisturizer & smooth affair primer & brightener. Her products are all multi-tasking which I LOVE!! Pricey but worth the splurge.
It’s not so much the brands Coola or Supergoop that I dislike. I don’t care for a straight up sunscreen on my face. I like my moisturizers, primers or foundation to have SPF integrated. Just a preference for me. The beauty subs just send so much of these that I’m just kind of tired of the same old thing. They both have good ingredients and work pretty well. Sunscreen just never works well under my foundation. Everyone’s skin is different and you might love them so I didn’t mean to give the impression that they weren’t good sunscreens. You are very welcome!! Thanks for reading! Good questions too….stuff I should’ve mentioned in the post!
