I was first introduced to Make Beauty through Birchbox when I purchased their lip primer. I really like it and use it pretty often so when I was presented with the opportunity to try an eyeshadow and lipstick, I didn’t hesitate. I’ve never tried any other product from Make Beauty and my interest was piqued for good reason!
MAKE Beauty is a New york based company that takes pride in making very versatile products that can be worn wet or dry, alone or layered, subtle or super-pigmented. I love that, in addition to great products, they support women-led, worker-owned cooperative businesses. I also think it’s pretty cool that Make Beauty collaborates with someone outside the beauty industry (every year) to inspire color palettes and limited edition concepts. I don’t think I’ve heard of any other brand doing something so ingenious.
Make Beauty sent me a sample of their Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Alabaster which is described as a warm eggshell with peach undertones. Alabaster is a great neutral shade that is excellent for all-over, inner corner of the lid, or brow enhancing (these are the places I have used Alabaster). The texture is smooth and consistent, blends easily, no fall-out, I did not experience any creasing but I did use a primer, and it’s long-lasting. What I like best about Alabaster is what they claim is true, you can go super subtle or layer for intense pigment. It may take several layers for the desired effect but if you are as picky as I am about eyeshadow detail then you will love this! If a product lives up to all it’s claims then it’s worth it for me. Here is the description of Make’s Matte Finish Eyeshadows from their website:
“Turn heads with this stunning, intensely pigmented shadow in an array of blendable shades. The velvety matte powder goes on smoothly with a crease-resistant, oil-free formula that looks fresh hours after you’ve applied it. Vitamins C and E help to provide anti-oxidant protection for the delicate eye area. Apply dry or wet for a more intense finish.
I also received a sample of Make Beauty’s Silk Cream Lipstick in the shade Taffy, described as a medium pink with purple undertones. I can’t lie Taffy confused me!! The shade of the sample appears to be a mauve/pink but when I put it on my lips it was more of a bright sheer pink and not what I expected at all. The texture is super smooth creamy/hydrating and felt like full-coverage but looked semi-sheer. Taffy is a beautiful mess and know it sounds kind of crazy because sheer and ultra creamy don’t seem to go together but it actually looks semi-sheer and exactly like a pink taffy. I absolutely love it! If a lipstick lasts at least 4 hours than it’s long-lasting to me and Taffy held up without re-application for about 5-6 hours. I’m curious to know if Taffy was created to look sort of sheer because of the name or are all the pigments in this line semi-sheer appearing. I do know I am definitely purchasing more shades from the Silk Cream line! Here is the description of the Silk Cream Lipsticks from Make Beauty’s website:
“Vivid, saturated color that does double duty as a protective moisturizing treatment with antioxidant vitamins, rosehip, soybean and safflower oils. Aloe and chamomile extracts further condition lips. Feather-resistant and intensely pigmented in true-wear shades.”
Here are the swatches of Alabaster and Taffy on my arm. I tried to get as close as I could to make the Alabaster visible on my eggshell colored arm, it was much more visible on the lid. I’m not sure if you can see the sheerness of Taffy but I assure you it is beautiful on the lips!
The retail price for both Alabaster and Taffy is $25 each but I have a special code for you guys to get 20% off until 5/31/16. Just head over here and use code MAKEYOURSELF at checkout.
Anyone else have experience with Make Beauty products? I would love to hear about it so give me some lip!
