Battle Of The Beauty Subs 3/2016

I’m back after a much-needed R&R vacation. I had a great time with my husband spoiling me all week. I received so many beautiful flowers from my family over the holiday, if I can only keep them alive. The reviews are piling up so I have much to blog about in the next two weeks. Totally random but, am I the only one that is NOT a fan of the Kardashians or Kanye? I spent way too much time thinking about that today instead of getting this March post out. Just curious… Done rambling now on with the battle!

This series started in May, almost a year of both subscriptions and this particular post is way overdue so here it goes…. Battle of the Beauty Subs; March edition.

If you are looking to subscribe to a monthly beauty subscription (that doesn’t break the bank) then both of these are great choices. Birchbox is high-end with not many full-size items and Ipsy is mostly drugstore with more full-size items. After the year is up I plan to cancel one and keep one. I have also been searching for a replacement to continue the series, (good excuse right?) so if anyone has a suggestion please give me some lip below 😉
Every month Birchbox provides a curated box of beauty, grooming, and/or lifestyle samples for $10/month. You can either pick 2/5 samples per month or choose a guest editor box with all products chosen by the guest editor. They also have a point system that translates to cash for purchases online or at the Birchbox store. A beauty profile questionnaire is available to better suite your interests. I find that they do generally follow your profile answers. Birchbox tends to send higher end products so they rarely include full-size items. Birchbox can be purchased yearly or gifted. They have now added a build-your-own-box feature. You can subscribe to Birchbox here.

Every month Ipsy provides 5 full-size or deluxe sample products in a cute little travel size makeup bag for $10/month. Ipsy focuses mostly on makeup with the occasional hair/skin products. They also provide a beauty quiz to tailor your needs. I’m not sure how much weight my answers hold with Ipsy. There is a wait list but they provide opportunities to skip it. Ipsy will send some drugstore brands but they include full-size items more frequently. It can be purchased yearly, but due to the wait list it cannot be gifted at this time. You can subscribe to Ipsy here.

Impression: This month was a hard decision for me since both boxes had really nice products.  I was really looking forward to NYX Liquid Suede until I received Passion Rose (more like hot pink) and totally not my shade, though I did appreciate the full-size. NYX and Ofra shades were both disappointing and not for me. The Global Beauty Mask was probably the best item with the bronzer being a close second. I’m getting the feeling that Ipsy doesn’t even look at my profile. Birchbox was disappointing in the size of the samples but I guess high-end comes in smaller sizes. I liked everything minus the Hot Sauce. I rarely use hair products unless they are geared towards fine/colored hair, which the Amika dry shampoo is def on point. I already ran out and purchased the full-size! theBalm Stainiac was a super shocker. I really wasn’t all that excited about a red lip stain but this is so subtle and my lips but better! I have been wearing it daily for the last week or so. I already tried Trestique’s Lip Crayons and liked them so I thought the shadow would be good, but again the shade is green and not my typical but I have worked it in a few times. The Wilma Schumann Eye Pads are the deal breaker. I love these strange jelly-like eye pads. When I first opened them I thought they felt gross and would slide right down my face because they were so wet and jiggly but they stayed put and felt lovely.

**Hands down…Birchbox takes it this month.**

Do you subscribe to Birchbox or Ipsy? Did you like the March products? Give me some lip!

    • Thank you! I subscribe to GLOSSYBOX and I went back and forth between that and Boxy charm. It’s good to know that you like it and I will def keep it in mind. I really like GLOSSYBOX so far but it’s only been a few months. Both Birchbox and Ipsy are half the price so sometimes I feel like you get what you pay for.

    • Thank you. I’ve been working on my photography skills so that compliment means a lot!! Both subs cost the same so it really comes down to preference. I love the point system and the fact that Birchbox has a physical and online store. It’s nice to get a package each month too and I will be sad when I have to cancel one. Lol
